I have literally used every laptop made since I have a job with access to unlimited equipment. I have used every brand for recording - even the boutique brands. Most of the major brands - Lenovo, Dell, etc are hit and miss depending on the model and manufacturing process for that particular model. You cannot say all Lenovo's are good because they have some good models and many bad models.
In general, the business lines (I. E. Think. Pad Line for Lenovo) are better made and better quality. I either look for a business line model or a high end home machine. The Lenovo business models are generally pretty safe bets.
I would stay away from HP with the exception of their Elitebook series and stay away from Dell everything. Asus, Toshiba, etc are all hit or miss. The problem with laptops is some of them are well grounded and very quiet for audio work and others are noisy due to cheap grounding. I have decided to stay with the very high end machines as I don't have time to deal with problems, etc.
I currently use a Surfacebook Pro 3 which works great and is very solid for audio. If I had to chose now, I would go with the new Surface Laptop.
It is a high end laptop built for audio and video work. If you go with anything else, you are taking a risk. Personally, there are very few laptops that work well for audio work.
For PC, I would go Surface Book Pro line. For Mac, I would go Mac. Book Pro. If I had to go outside those choices, I would go with either an HP Elite. Book or Levovo Think.
Pad. I have also successfully used a Lenovo Yoga (The Flip laptop). Before you buy a laptop for audio work and it's not a Surface or Mac, then you are going to have to get hands on with it and plug it into your audio interface to make sure it is quiet without any grounding noise. If the laptop puts out noise, it's almost impossible to fix. Save your money and go with a Surface Pro or Mac.
Book Pro. Microsoft and Apple put a good deal of work focusing on audio and video work with these models. If you decide to go with anything else, test the laptop before you buy it or make sure you can return it if it generates noise.
